FOG:
RESEARCH PROJECTS

  • Adapt this poem to a play, with one person playing the cat, a few writing the script, a director, a sound technician, a lighting expert, producers, etc. See if you can find ways to involve everyone in the class, so that there will be no one in the classroom when you perform it.

  • Tweet a photograph of fog to your friends, with text superimposed over the picture stating that the fog wants to “can has cheezburger.” If any of them gets the joke, stop being their friend.

  • Use this poem as the basis for a series of posters that support neutering.

  • Rewrite this poem, livening things up a bit by adding a mouse. In your version, you have to explain what the mouse represents.

  • Fog is often confused with “smog,” the word given to harmful chemicals that are spewed into the atmosphere by industrial smokestacks.  Identify the top five companies responsible for air pollution in your area and lead a letter-writing campaign, asking classmates and citizens to implore them to quit strangling everybody with their foul contaminants “like a cat stealing the breath from a baby.”
